2011

I'm having a beer, way too much guacamole, and thinking about 2011. How poetic, huh? All in all it was a good year. Here's a brief recap.

January - we all couldn't wait, couldn't wait, couldn't wait for Jason to come home
February - we were all soooooo happy when Jason came home and we could be a family
March - this thing with Jason is...um....challenging
April - this thing with Jason is not tolerable
May - we got an apartment
June - I worked so much I don't remember our summer but I think we swam sometimes.
July - the kids spent most of July in Illinois
August - I quit my job because I like to see my own kids sometimes
September - wow we were effing broke
October - I started working at the library! yeah!
November - we went to the beach
December - reflecting on the last year and making some BIG decisions about the next one

It seems like it has been a really uneventful year even though we moved, I changed jobs, and the kids were....well four kids.
I will say, however, I'm totally getting this single mom thing down. I complain about how hard it is way less often and the kids have started realizing that I am one person and they need to stop expecting impossible shit. I miss them being babies but the older they get the funner they get. I miss our old family traditions and Christmas newsletters, and two parent home sometimes but I'm finding it is less and less often. I spent way more time making new traditions and having WAY MORE FUN with the kids.

Some of my favorite highlights of the last year have been....
when the kids each in their own way showed me that moving out of Jason's was the exact right decision

Harry (after being gone to Illinois for 3 weeks) flopping down to the carpet and kissing our apartment

our Tuesday night Zaxby's tradition

letterboxing and especially the Cheeha mountain trip

watching them play Cowboys and Indians with a bunch of kids one night at a friend's house outside in the dark

the whole "ass" conversation on the way to dinner one night

how cool they think it is that I work at the library

Owen snuggling in Sam's

Sam reading so much I can't even comprehend it

Carlie growing up and becomming less one of the kids and more one of the grown ups
